Found a nice shady spot to paint at the resort we were staying at. We flew in and got there early and still had plenty of time to paint.

Back to Back Day in Maine

April 4, 2014

I did the first painting of “the Lobster Pound” and I liked it so then I turned around and painted “the Dingy”. I like that one too. I was feeling I was on a roll and still had time before I had to head back so I drove around and found one more great spot and painted “Three Chairs”. Super day!

From Memory 1st Shot

April 3, 2014

Close but I will need to go back to this one. I stood on the dock the night before and wanted to try to capture the image from memory.  A day or two later i took this photo.  When I see the two together I’m not actually far off but I need to do it again. I see where I went wrong. The lights from the houses we far more intense than the image and photo portray. Maybe it was not quite dark enough when I took the photo. Any way I’m on track and cant wait to do it again and make it great.

“People on the Beach” Pencil Study

April 3, 2014

I went out that day to with my pencils in hand. I kept saying “I’m trying to find the beauty in the ugly” LOL. I wanted to practice figures. The beach was a great place to draw because people tend to sit in one place for a period of time just long enough to capture the positions. Of course it never fails that they move before you finish and you have to use your imagination to finish. I want to go to the city and get people on benches next. Homeless would be the best to capture.

Key West Imaginative Study Colored Pencils

April 3, 2014

I had to spend some time waiting in the airport to fly home from Key West. I brought my watercolor pencils with me and my pad just in case. I had the image of the Island at night still burning in my head so I started going at it in while I waited. I was pleased with the pencils and finished it off with a black pen for detail. It was an amazing way to make the time go by and before I knew it I was home and no time wasted! 🙂
